About Retire Artfully
Where We Started
A story from the founder
It still haunts me. The image of my father, a brilliant neurosurgeon, joking about retiring at 65, but it wasn't a humorous anecdote; it was a reflection of the truth. He, like many of us, had become his career.
Driven by a relentless pursuit of service, he chose not to retire and to keep working for another 15 years. But he’d already poured decades into his work, sacrificing precious time with his family. He missed witnessing his adult children mature, experiencing the joys of grandparenthood, and simply discovering who he was beyond the operating room.
And I, his son, missed out too, especially those last 15 years. I missed the opportunity to truly know him as a person, to understand his passions outside of medicine, to build a deeper, more meaningful relationship with the man who shaped me.
These missed opportunities, both his and mine, became the driving force behind Retire Artfully.
As I, and others I know, approach retirement, I refuse to let this happen again. I want to, no, I need to intentionally design a fulfilling life beyond work, one filled with meaningful activities, new experiences, and cherished moments with my friends and my daughter and future grandchildren.
But I know this is a common struggle. Many people, particularly those who have dedicated their lives to their careers, find themselves adrift when the time comes to step away. They lack a roadmap, a sense of purpose, and the confidence to embrace this new chapter.
Retire Artfully is not about planning your finances. We are about rediscovering yourself, uncovering your passions, and crafting a retirement that is not just an ending, but a beautiful, meaningful beginning.
You've worked long and hard and invested a lot to get to this point. Don't waste your working years by not deciding how to spend your future ones.
Take the opportunity today to plan your meaningful retirement. And if you were to ask me, maybe do it for all the important people in your life. You never know what you and they might be missing out on.
